The Kimball Complex in Kimball, WV, will be a hub of innovation and community revitalization, focused on transforming the Central Appalachian regional food system. As a principal part of the AgForce Development program, the Kimball Complex will support local food producers and bring fresh, sustainable food to the community. The Kimball Complex is currently in constuction.

Community Grocery

At the heart of the Complex is our community grocery, a vibrant space designed to connect local farmers and producers directly to consumers. Stocked with fresh, locally grown produce—including items grown on-site inside and from local food producers supported by the AgForce Development program– the grocery is more than a place to shop. It’s a testament to our commitment to food sovereignty and economic empowerment in McDowell County and beyond.

Food System Development

The Kimball Complex is a catalyst for food system development. We will offer:

Training Space: A place for hands-on education and skill-building in food production, processing, and business development, ensuring that local food entrepreneurs have the tools to succeed.
Processing, Aggregation & Distribution: Our facility provides vital infrastructure for local producers to process, store, and distribute their products, streamlining access to markets and expanding opportunities for regional growth.

Local Housing & Retail

The Kimball Complex isn’t just about food; it’s about community. We will offer:

Housing: On-site housing designed for community residents, tourists, researchers and others exploring our region.
Retail Space for Appalachian Gold: Appalachian Gold, a unique retail initiative, will bring high-quality, locally crafted goods to Kimball, showcasing the talents and entrepreneurship of the region.
