Progress and Focus

Our Organizational Progress & Focus

The Cutting EDGE

EDGE’s Organizational Progress & Focus

Phase One projects have been piloted and tested by EDGE. EDGE believes these key activities are the organizational backbone and will continue to bear fruit as we grow.

  • Anchor institution in Southern West Virginia that serves our community, communities like ours and communities that benefit from mutual collaboration
  • Mountain/Forest farming focus – Conducting research and developing a program that focuses on the types of agriculture our region can successfully and prominently produce, with respect to the land and environment
  • Demonstration, training and research facility – T & T Organics and EDGE facility contains high tunnels for research and nursery development, apiary for beekeeping education and honey production, and production areas for mountain range poultry (Mr. Joe’s Poultry and Eggs), meat goats and learning space for row crops, forest medicinals, berry production (Heritage Mountain Farms, LLC). This farm continues to research economic drivers for our area, providing entrepreneurship training for future producers.
  • Workforce development program focused on creating producers, critical to building a food system in our region
  • Rural to urban resource exchange
